Friday’s big stock stories: What’s likely to move the market in the next trading session

Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching and what’s on the radar for the next session. The biotechs The influential meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology begins on Friday. CNBC will have full coverage. Going into the meeting here’s where some key indexes and ETFs stand. The NYSE Arca Biotechnology Index (.BTK) is up nearly 4% in May. It has gained about 33% in the past year. The index is down 5.25% from the January high. The State Street SPDR S & P Biotech ETF (XBI) is down 4.6% from the April 17 high. The ETF is up 1% in May. It has gained 67% in the past year. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) is off 6% from the January high. It’s little changed in May, and has gained about 39% in a year. Compare all that to the S & P Health Care Sector, which is down 7.5% from the February high. It has advanced 1% in a month, and it has gained around 13% in a year. The Pharma, Biotech and Life Sciences S & P Industry Group is off 7.5% from the February high. It has jumped 27% in a year. XBI 1Y mountain The SPDR S & P Biotech ETF (XBI) in the past year What sector is up the most this week? It’s real estate. The S & P Real Estate sector has added about 3% in four days. It is just off the high hit two weeks ago. The S & P Real Estate Sector has risen about 11% in a year. The S & P 500 has jumped 27% in a year. American Tower has gained 7.7% in the past four days. It’s down 21% from the 52-week high reached in July. The stock has a current dividend yield of about 3.8%. Its business focuses on leasing land for cell phone towers. Alexandria Real Estate has advanced 6.4% in four days. It’s really taken a hit, though: Shares are down 46% from the 52-week high hit in September. The stock has a current yield of 8.5%. Much of the business is invested in labs leased to clients in the life sciences industry. Crown Castle has added 6.2% week to date. The stock is down 20% from the July high. The current dividend yield is 4.6%. The company is a competitor of American Tower. Quantum leap This sector jumped big time on Thursday after the U.S. government said it was giving $2 billion to a group of companies in the quantum computing space. Even companies that weren’t part of the announcement saw their shares jump. Rigetti Computing is up again after hours, almost 7%. The stock picked up 30% in regular trading. It is down 62% from the October high. Quantum Computing is up 5% after hours. The stock jumped almost 20% during the regular session. It is off 38% from the October high. D-Wave Quantum is up 7% after hours. The stock was up 33% on Thursday. The stock is down 45% from the October high. IonQ was up 12% on Thursday. The stock is down 30% from the October high. Arqit Quantum was up 25% in the session. It is off 73% from the October high. IBM is in the space, too. It was up 12% during the session. It is down 22% from the November high.
