Thursday’s big stock stories: What’s likely to move the market in the next trading session

Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching as the market started April on a winning note, and what’s on the radar for the next session. Metals and the war CNBC TV’s Morgan Brennan is working on a story about the impact of the war on metals, not just gold. It will be on starting in the 5 a.m. ET hour of ” Morning Call .” Aluminum is way up. Futures tied to the metal have gained almost 12% since the war started. The rest are all down including gold , which has fallen about 9%. Silver , palladium and platinum futures have dropped between 17% and 19% since the Iran war began. Copper futures have lost 7%. Brennan will explain why we’re seeing this action. She will also tell us whether the experts are saying this is a good time to buy in or to wait it out. @AL.1 1M mountain Aluminum futures in the past month The tariff announcement: one year later April 2 will mark a year since President Donald Trump made his tariff announcement, which hit so many stocks at the time. Many of them have recovered from the initial shock. Walmart has advanced nearly 40% since the tariff announcement. Target has gained more than 13% in that period. Best Buy has fallen 15% in a year. Apple has jumped 14% since the tariff announcement. Tesla , whose founder and CEO Elon Musk complained bitterly about the impact, has seen his stock soar nearly 35% in that period. Big data live on ‘Squawk Box’ Jobless claims and the U.S. trade deficit data come in at 8:30 a.m. on “Squawk Box” with Becky Quick, Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin. The Dow Jones consensus for initial jobless claims calls for 212,000 filings. The expectation on the trade deficit is $62 billion. Last month, the number came in at $54.46 billion. Trucking CNBC’s Frank Holland takes a good look at the industry amid higher fuel prices. He’ll also have new information about rejection rates. In the past month, Hub Group has dropped 15%. C.H. Robinson has lost 9% in the last month. Schneider National has slid 6.6% in a month. The iShares US Transportation ETF (IYT) has fallen 8% in a month. Tesla shares have dropped 15% in the last three months. The stock is off 23% from the December high.
